How to become a Christian

The central theme of the Bible is God's love for you and for all people. This love was revealed when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world as a human being, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead. Because Christ died, your sins can be forgiven, and because He conquered death you can have eternal life. You can know for sure what will become of you after you die.

You have probably heard the story of God’s love referred to as the "Gospel." The word Gospel simply means "Good News." The Gospel is the Good News that, because of what Christ has done, we can be forgiven and can live forever.

But this gift of forgiveness and eternal life cannot be yours unless you willingly accept it. God requires an individual response from you.

The way to heaven is through JESUS CHRIST.  We must have FAITH in Him, and we can use the letters of this word to explain how the Bible tells us how we can enter heaven.

F is for FORGIVENESS

We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God's forgiveness.  "In Him (Jesus) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins"-- Ephesians 1:7a

A is for AVAILABLE

    Forgiveness is available.  It is--
    AVAILABLE FOR ALL
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life"--John 3:16
    BUT NOT AUTOMATIC
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven"--Matthew 7:21a

I is for IMPOSSIBLE

It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven.
    GOD IS--
        Love (John 3:16)
Just (James 2:13a)  "For judgment is without mercy"
    MAN IS SINFUL
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"--Romans 3:23

Then  how can a sinful person enter heaven, where God allows no sin?

T is for TURN

If you are driving down the road and someone asks you to turn around, what do you need to do?  Change directions!  Turn means repent.
    TURN from something--sin and self
"But unless you repent you will all likewise perish"--Luke 13:3b
TURN to Someone; trust Christ only
"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures"--I Corinthians 15:3b-4
"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved"--Romans 10:9

H is for HEAVEN

    Heaven is eternal life.
    HERE
"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly"--John 10:10b
    HEREAFTER
"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also"--John 14:3

Understanding what you have read here, would you like to receive eternal life by trusting in Christ as your forgiver of sins and the leader of your life?

The Bible says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9

If you decided to say yes--you want Jesus to forgive your sins and be the Leader of your life-- I have a sample prayer for you to pray to make this commitment.  Realize that it is not the words of the prayer that save you but the actual condition of your heart--meaning that you want God to be in total control of your life; you want to be a new creation; you want to become obedient to His word--the Bible.

Pray this prayer:
"Dear Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and that you rose from the grave.  I now ask you to forgive me of my sins and to save my soul.  Amen."

If you prayed this prayer today, please let me know at mikesan@racheljoyscott.net I will be more then happy to pray with you and give you any sort of help I can in your new life.  Also as a way of encouragement in your new life in Christ, I would like to you send you a free copy of, "Rachel's Tears." (Visitors out side the United States will have to pay for shipping and handling)  If you have any questions on Christianity you can email me or post on the site's message board.
