My small tribute CD to
Rachel Scott
| I love music. Music plays a major role
in my life. It is one of God's most awesome gifts.
A month ago, I was going though some favorite songs that I
liked, and I decided to put together a completion CD of songs
in honor of Rachel for my own listening enjoyment. The
end result is a 2 disc collection of songs that remind me of
Rachel and her faith. They are songs of inspiration and
hope. Obviously, the collection is not for sale, I am
just listing the songs here and a explanation as to why I like
it. All the songs on here you can buy at any music
store. |
Disk 1:
-
This is your time (Reprise) - Michael
W. Smith is such an awesome composer. This song was written
about the columbine tragedy. Specifically, it was written
for Cassie Bernall. However
I've always associated it with Rachel, because like Cassie, she to
stood up for her faith when asked if she believed in God.
The instrumental is a wonderful piece, and it always brings tears
to my eyes as I hear it.
-
Friends -
Another Smitty song. A classic one at that. This song
was played at the columbine memorial service back in 99. I
believe Michael W Smith himself was there and sang it.
-
My heart will go
on - This song was played at her funereal. She had loved
the song and was learning to play it on piano before her death.
-
This is your time
(live acoustic) - Again, the song reminds me of Rachel.
This was recorded live, I have no idea where, I got it off the
net, but it's a cool version of the song.
-
Hanging by a
Moment - A awesome Lifehouse song. I love this song,
it's just a simple praise and worship song, of wanting more of
God. Running after God and seeking his truth in our walks
with Him. I believe Rachel was like that too, always wanting
more of God's spirit.
-
Higher - A
popular Creed song. I'm not much of a creed fan, but I love
this song. To me it's about going higher, to that next level
of our walk with God.
-
Learning to breath
- Switchfoot song. I love this song. Our walk with God is a
everyday learning process, we are constantly learning things about
our wonderful savior.
-
Only Hope -
Switchfoot song. Another awesome song. This is just
like a love song to God. About giving our everything to God.
In a world gone to hell, God is our only hope. And I
know Rachel knew God was her only hope also.
-
Streets have no name - U2 song. One
day I will be in heaven, and walk on the streets with no name.
-
Yes I Believe - Rebecca St. James song.
This song was written for the Columbine tragedy. It's about
saying yes to God, just as Rachel did.
-
I can only imagine - Mercy me song. This is
an awesome song, it brings me to tears so many times. I know
Rachel knows what it is to be in the presence of her loving
savior. For those of us who are still on earth, we can only
imagine what His glory will be like, what will we do? How will we
react when we are before the God of Abraham, Isasic and Jacob.
-
Someday we'll know - Mandy Moore and
Switchfoot. Song off of the Walk to remember soundtrack.
I've always enjoyed this song. It says in the word of God,
that God's ways are not our ways. We don't understand why
things happen sometimes, for example 9/11. But God is always
in control. One day we will know why things happen.
-
In the name of love - U2 song. I've
always liked this song.
-
Everything - Lifehouse song. This is
a praise song, back when lifehouse was leading praise and worship.
It's a simple song, praising God and telling Him that he is my
everything. Rachel lead an awesome life, and God was her
everything.
-
Only Hope - Mandy Moore version. I
love Mandy's version of this song as well.
Disk 2:
-
I pledge allegiance to the lamb - Ray Boltz
song. This song I believe was written for Rachel and
everyone else who has lost their life for Jesus. It is a
great song of inspiration to me.
-
Friend of Mine - done by Jonathan and Stephen Cohen of
Columbine High School - simply a beautiful song in tribute to the
people who died in Columbine.
-
Hello, goodbye - Michael W. Smith song.
This song is about losing a loved one and how there is life after
death for all who believe in Jesus Christ. I relate it to
Rachel because there is always pain in losing someone we love.
But also we rejoice because SHE is rejoicing now with Jesus.
-
Don't laugh at me - Mark Wills song.
This song was written for Columbine, and all other schools where
there is a bullying problem. It's about reaching out
to people that may not be the same as us. I love this song,
it makes me cry when I hear it.
-
I will tell the world - Ray Boltz song.
This is what Rachel wanted to do, and though her life and legacy,
she has and does continue to do that.
-
For future generations - 4Him song.
I've always liked this song. It's about letting our light
shine for the youth so they can see Christ in us. Standing
firm and not being watered down by false doctrine and the world.
As the song says, we must be a light for future generations.
-
Thank you - Ray Boltz song. So many times,
we don't know when God uses us. It can be by planting a seed
in someone's heart, or perhaps just offering them a warm smile.
I for one, know I am so thankful to Rachel Scott. One day
when I am called home, I will look her in her eyes, with tears in
my eyes, and say THANK YOU RACHEL FOR GIVING TO THE LORD.
-
More - Brian Doerksen song. A gifted
worship leader. The song talks about just wanting more and
more of God. More then life giving blood I need you MORE.
Rachel also had this desire to constantly want more of her
heavenly Father.
-
Hands - Jewel song. Rachel liked
jewel's music. So I put a few Jewel songs in the mix.
I have always loved her song "hands." It is an awesome song
of hope and inspiration.
-
Hanging by a Moment (acoustic version) -
See disk one # 5.
-
Life Uncommon - Jewel song. Another
jewel song that I like. I believe Rachel truly lead a life
uncommon.
-
Once in a life time - Done by Ines during
the Eurovision Song contest. She's from Estonia and the song
just talks about living life, because you aren't promised
tomorrow.
-
Cleansed by fire - Alice Cooper song.
As you have read in my journal entries, Mr. cooper is now a
Christian. He wrote this song a few years back, and it
simply talks about knowing who Satan is, and that he is real and
also a lier. The song talks about coming into a recognition
that God does exist and that there is always hope, for even the
darkest of souls. ex: the columbine shooters.
-
Hero's are hard to find - Twisted Sister
song
-
Watch the lamb - Ray Boltz song - Rachel
did a mime to this song shortly after she had died. Every
time I hear this song, I cry, and I think of her doing that mime
to this song.
